Below are some FAQs.

  • We are located at 19879 8th Street, Bend, OR 97703 (Tumalo).

  • The Divine Liturgy is the central worship service in the Orthodox Church, focused upon preparing for and receiving the Holy Eucharist (the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, commonly called Communion). It consists of psalms, hymns, prayers for ourselves and the world, readings from the Gospel and Epistle for the day, processions, and usually a short sermon (also called a homily). If you’re just getting acquainted with Orthodoxy, the best way to learn more about the Liturgy is to “Come and see!”

  • A Reader’s Typika is a service which is done when the priest is unavailable to serve the Liturgy. It includes readings, psalms, hymns, and prayers.

  • The main goal for men and women is to be modest in your dress as you would be for meeting anyone important.

Men usually wear long pants and long sleeve shirts. Shorts are to be avoided.

Women typically wear mid-length or longer dresses or skirts. Pantsuits are also typical. Modest tops are considered respectful.

Veiling is common for some women in some Orthodox churches and some of our parishioners follow this custom, but it is not required. You’ll notice that clergy are clothed in liturgical vestments, which have great detail, significance, and symbolism.

  • Absolutely! Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the Divine Liturgy or other services.

Don’t worry if your child wiggles and squirms a bit. God put the wiggle in them; don’t try to get it out! Unless your child is making more noise than our priest and choir, just stay put. When they need a little more room, just walk them to the back, so that they can still see and hear what’s going on.

  • Holy Communion is reserved for members of the Orthodox Church who have properly prepared themselves with prayer, fasting, and regular confession. You are encouraged to speak to our priest for more information about what becoming Orthodox looks like. Everyone may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) that is handed out at the conclusion of the service as we depart.
